Booting Issues
When I turn on the ICS, my screen is blank
Note
---
Do not turn the power switch off and on too quickly or else the screen may remain dark. If the blue light on the rear of the ICS is on but the screen is dark, press the display's power button, which is located in the bottom middle of the screen, beneath the "Inveneo" logo.
If you are do not know how to turn the Inveneo Computing Station on or are unfamiliar with its components, please see Chapter 2: The Inveneo Computing Station) to familiarize yourself with the ICS before you continue.
If the ICS does not not appear to turn on
- Turn the power switch off, wait 10 seconds, and turn on the ICS again.
If the display remains blank but the LCD display's blue light around the power button is on:
- Check the video cable that connects the ICS unit to the LCD display and makes sure the blue connectors are correctly attached and the thumb-screws are firmly tightened
- Press the LCD display's power button and wait ten seconds, then press it again to turn the display on
If the display is still blank, continue with the following steps:
- Ensure all cables are securely plugged in to appropriate ports, including
- the power supply is plugged into a wall outlet or power strip
- the cable from the power supply to the ICS is plugged into the cable port connected to the power switch on the upper edge, behind the LCD display
- the "+12v" power cable is plugged into the power hole on the upper, left edge of the ICS unit behind the LCD display
- a second "+12v" power cable is plugged into the power hole in the lower, middle power hole in back of the LCD display
- Turn off the ICS's power switch off, wait ten seconds, and turn it on agin
If the display is still blank, continue with the following steps:
- Ensure that the blue "Power" light on the right side of the ICS unit behind the LCD display is lit and glowing blue
- if the light is not glowing blue, re-check all of the cables and connections described above.
- Turn off the LCD display, wait ten seconds, and turn it on again.
If the ICS's and LCD display's blue power lights are on, and all cables are correctly and securely connected
- There may be a problem with the ICS unit, the LCD display, or both.
- Contact your Inveneo support contact to arrange to have the equipment tested, repaired or replaced.
Printer Issues
If you added a printer and were able to print to it, but then the printer disappeared the next time you turned on the ICS, it is likely the "Save Configuration" process was not performed after adding the new printer.
My printer disappeared after reboot
- Add the new printer (see Chapter 5: Printing).
- Perform "Save Configuration" (see Chapter 8: Configuration System, Saving Configuration).
My printer does not print
Quick Checklist
- Check to make sure printer is properly connected to Inveneo Hub Server or Inveneo Computing Station, depending on your environment.
- Ensure that printer "Ready" light is on and there are no red or blinking lights indicating a paper jam or other error.
- If the printer is properly connected and ready to print, turn off the printer, wait ten seconds, then turn it on again.
Make sure printer is set as "Default Printer"
- Click Start > Administration > Configure Printers.
- Type in the administrative password and click OK.
- The icon with the green check/tic is the default printer.
Network & Internet Problems
Web browser not working
If after launching the Firefox Web Browser you encounter an error and cannot open web pages, the Inveneo Computing Station is most likely disconnected from the network.
To check the network status of the ICS
- Look at the Network status icon in the lower right corner of the Task Bar.
- If the icon shows a red "X"
, the ICS is not connected to the network.
- If the ICS connects to the network wirelessly with a USB dongle, check to make sure it is fully plugged into the USB port on the right side of the ICS.
- If the ICS connects to the network with an Ethernet cable, check to make sure the cable is securely plugged into the Ethernet port on the left side of the ICS.
- After verifying the wired or wireless connection is secure, restart the ICS to see if the network icon changes to indicate the ICS is connected to the network.
- If the ICS network status indicates an active wired
or wireless
network connection, click Start > Browse the Web to launch Firefox and access the web.
- If Firefox still reports and error yet the network connection is active, check the ICS's network settings for conflicts and, if Firefox still won't work, redo the ICS's network settings (see Chapter 4: Networking.
Installing a Firefox Extension
Firefox extensions are software and must be installed using "Install Mode"
- Download the extension XPI file to a USB stick. If you are downloading from Mozilla's site, right-click the Install button and choose Save Link As... DO NOT INSTALL
- Boot into Install Mode by clicking Start > Administration > Reboot System
- Click Install Mode
- Click OK
- After IDL reboots, do NOT launch Firefox.
- Copy the XPI from the USB stick to /tmp Note: The file must be copied; it cannot be installed from the USB stick.
- Click Start > Administration > Terminal
- Become root user by issuing:
sudo -s
- Run the Firefox command line as follows:
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib/firefox /usr/lib/firefox/firefox-bin -install-global-extension /tmp/<yourplugin>.xpi
NOTE: Firefox usually doesn't report any errors even if the command is typed in wrong! The best indicator that it worked is that Firefox does NOT open. If it opens, something went wrong. Quit Firefox and try again
- Click Start > Administration > Reboot System
- Click Normal Reboot
- Click OK
- After IDL reboots, launch Firefox to confirm the plugin/extension is properly installed.
Shared folder missing
If the shared folder icon does not automatically appear on the desktop when connected to a network with an Inveneo Hub Server, you can manually enter the IP address of the server. (see Chapter 4 Networking; Configuring Inveneo Servers.)
System Configuration Issues
Settings not saved after restart
In most situations, the issue of files or changes being lost or missing after turning IDL off and on again is because the "Save Configuration" process was not performed.
Any time changes are made to system or user settings - including adding devices such as printers or USB wireless dongles, or customizing IDL by, for example, changing the Start menu, or adding icons to the desktop - a "Save Configuration" must be performed to keep the changes after IDL is shut off. For more information on saving the configuration, see Chapter 8: Configuration System, Saving Configuration.
To perform "Save Configuration"
- Save the configuration changes by clicking Start > Administration > Save Configuration.
- Type in the administrative password and click OK.
- When the “Configuration saved” message appears, click OK.
