On the Hub Server

Files and documents created in Inveneo Desktop Linux, which are connected to an Inveneo Hub Server, are generally saved to the server. The "Shared Files" folder, where documents on the hub server are saved, will automatically appear on the desktop when the ICS and Inveneo Hub Server on the same network. If the "Shared Files" folder does not automatically appear on the desktop, see Chapter 4 Networking, Configuring Inveneo Servers.

Once you have double clicked on the "Shared Files" folder, the Save As window looks like this.

To save a document, picture, spreadsheet or other type of file:

  1. Click the File menu and select Save.
  2. Type a name for the file
  3. Double-click on Desktop in the "Places" section of the window.
  4. Double-click on the Shared Files folder in the "Name" section of the window. Now the "Save in folder" field points to the "Shared Files."
  5. Click OK to save the file.
  6. Click File > Save at any time to save changes to the file.
  7. When quitting an application, most applications will ask the user if they would like to save the current document or file before quitting.
  8. Click OK to save the document; if the document was not already saved, the application will ask the user to name the document.


On a USB Memory Stick

  1. Insert a USB memory stick into one of the Inveneo Computing Station's available USB ports.
  2. Click the File menu and select Save.
  3. Type a name for the file.
  4. In the "Places" field, click the down-arrow to scroll the list of Places until the "USB Disks" folder appears.
  5. Double-click the USB Disks folder.
  6. In the "Name" field to the right of "Places", scroll down the list of folders until the name of the USB memory stick appears.
  7. Double-click the USB memory stick to select it. Now the "Save in folder" field points to the name of the USB memory stick.
  8. Click OK to save the file.
  9. Click File > Save at any time to save changes to the file.
  10. When quitting an application, most applications will ask the user if they would like to save the current document or file before quitting.
  11. Click OK to save the document; if the document was not already saved, the application will ask the user to name the document.

On the Inveneo Computing Station

Turning On Local File Storage (Only on 40GB hard-drive System)

Local file storage is only available on Inveneo Computing Stations with a 40gb hard drive. ICSs with a 2gb flash drive do not have local file storage because constantly writing to the flash drive will degrade it.
  1. Click Start > Administration > Configure Desktop Icons
  2. Type in the administrator password and click OK.
  3. Check/Tic the box at the bottom of the window labeled "Enable 'Station Files' folder for loack hard drive file storage"
  4. Click Close
  5. To save the "Station Files" folder on the desktop, click Start > Administration > Save Configuration.
  6. When the “Configuration saved” message appears, click OK.
  7. Type in the administrator password and click OK.
  8. Documents saved to the "Station Files" folder are stored on the local hard-drive.

Saving files to the Inveneo Computing Station

  1. Click the File menu and select Save.
  2. Type a name for the file.

  4. Double-click on the Station Files folder in the "Name" section of the window. Now the "Save in folder" field points to the "Station Files."
  5. Click OK to save the file.
  6. Click File > Save at any time to save changes to the file.

  8. Click OK to save the document; if the document was not already saved, the application will ask the user to name the document.
