All ICS and the server must be networked together, either wired or wirelessly, to share a printer. For information on how to network the ICS, see Chapter 4 Networking. Inveneo Computing Stations can connect to either and Inveneo Hub Server or Microsoft Windows Server for printer sharing.

Configuring the Printer on IDL

Configuring the URL field on IDL. "Printer-on-Server" is the name given to the printer when it was configured on the hub server.

  1. Click Start > Administration > Configure Printers
  2. Type in the administrator password and click OK.
  3. Double-click New Printer.
  4. The message "Readng printer database..." will appear (it may take a few minutes before the "Add a Printer" window appears).
  5. Click Network Printer under Printer Type
  6. Click the URI: field and type "ipp://192.168.100.1/printers/<name you gave the printer>"
    • The default IP address of the hub server is 192.168.100.1. If you changed the IP address of the hub-server, you will need to substitute the new IP address with 192.168.100.1.
  7. Click Forward
  8. Select the "Manufacturer" from the drop down menu
  9. Select the "Model" from the drop down menu
  10. Select the "Driver" from the drop down menu. Important: If the recommended printer is an HP model, select the drive labeled HPLIP, even if it is not the recommended driver. (HPLIP indicates official HP drivers).
  11. Click Forward
  12. Name the printer
  13. Click Apply
  14. The printer you just added will now be listed in the printer window. Right click the newly added printer.
  15. Select "Make Default." A green check mark will appear over the newly added printer.
  16. To save the printer configuration settings, click Start > Administration > Save Configuration.
  17. Type in the administrator password and click OK.
  18. When the “Configuration saved” message appears, click OK.
  19. The printer is now ready to print.

Configuring the Printer on the ICS

  1. Click Start > Administration > Configure Printers.
  2. Type in the administrator password and click OK.
  3. Double-click New Printer.
  4. The message "Readng printer database..." will appear (it may take a few minutes before the "Add a Printer" window appears).
  5. In Printer Type, click Network Printer
  6. Click IPP Printer or Printer on CUPS server (IPP), select Windows Printer (SMB)
  7. A window called "Authentication Required" will appear, click Cancel.
  8. In the Host field, click the down arrow, which will list the Windows computers on the network.
  9. Click on the name of your server. If the server name does not appear, you can manually type in the name.
  10. A window called "Authentication Required" will appear, click Cancel
  11. In the Printer field, click the down arrow, which will list the printers on the server.
  12. Click on the name of printer. If the printer name does not appear, you can manually type the name.
  13. In the Username field, enter the username of an account created on the Windows Server. This name does not have to be "default" or "inveneo." These are accounts depend on the configuration of Windows Server.
  14. In the Password field, enter the password for the username. Again, the password depends on accounts created on Windows Server.
  15. Click Forward
  16. Select the "Manufacturer" from the drop down menu
  17. Select the "Model" from the drop down menu

  19. Click Forward
  20. Name the printer
  21. Click Apply
  22. The printer you just added will now be listed in the printer window. Right click the newly added printer.

  25. Type in the administrator password and click OK.
