About the ICS
The Inveneo Computing Station is an ultra-low-power, affordable and fully functional desktop computer designed for use in rural locations such as schools, clinics, field offices, community centers and Internet cafes. The Computing Station includes an ultra-low power computer mounted on an LCD, a keyboard, optical mouse, an AC power cord that converts power to 12 volts and Inveneo Desktop 2.1 open source software.
The Computing Station is designed for use in challenging environments. Key features are:
- Very low power consumption (20 watts at peak operation) allows it to be powered cost effectively from solar or other power sources.
- Solid state design (fanless) improves durability in hot, humid and/or dusty environments
- Computer is mounted and secured on the LCD to prevent dust and loss.
- Standalone or networkable
- Easy-to-use Inveneo Desktop Linux enables novice users and administrators to be productive with a minimum of training.
- Easily replaceable components – USB mouse, keyboard – in case of breakage or loss.
Turning the ICS On and Off
The ICS's main power switch is located behind the LCD display.
When turned on, the ICS may take a few moments before the screen lights up.
If the ICS don't not appear to turn on, turn the switch off, wait 10 seconds, and turn on the ICS again.
Important: Do not shut off the Inveneo Computing Station while saving to a USB memory stick. Also, if working on a document, do not shut off the Inveneo Computer Station until you saved the document one last time before you shut off the ICS. Failure to do so may result in loss of the document or other files.

Computer
The Inveneo computer is mounted on the back of the display screen. The computer has a number of ports and connections, which include:
- 12-volt DC to AC power adapter - connects to the Inveneo Computing Station to the power supply
- Ethernet - 10/100Base-T socket connects the ICS to a local area network (LAN) with an Ethernet cable
- Video - connects the ICS to the display
- Audio-out - connects the ICS to the display's built-in speaker
- USB 2.0 (x4) - to connect other devices to the ICS, including wireless adapters, USB memory sticks and printers
- Microphone - to connect an external microphone
- Headphone - to plug in headphones for private listening instead of hearing sound from the display's built-in speaker
In addition, the ICS also has:
- Power blue light - indicates the ICS is powered on
- Power button - unused (the main ICS on/off power switch is located on the top of the computer)
LCD Monitor
The Inveneo Computing Station's LCD monitor has several connection ports, including:
- Power - connects to the computer's power cable
- Audio - connects to the computer's Audio-out port to provide sound from the display's stereo speakers
- Video - connects the display to the computer's Video port
The LCD Monitor also has several buttons, including:
- Power - to reset the display if it does not turn on when powering on the ICS with the main on/off power switch on the upper side of the computer
- Auto/Select - press and hold for five seconds to reset the display's settings
- Menu - opens the display's settings
- Press the left and right buttons ("<" and ">") move from one option to the next
- Press Auto/Select to change current option panel
- Press left and right buttons to move from one option to the next
- Press Auto/Select to choose selected option
- Press Menu twice to close the display settings menu
Keyboard
In addition to the alphabet and numeral keys, the standard Inveneo keyboard has several special keys, including:
- Shift - press and hold to type Capital letters or special symbols above certain keys (such as the "@" key above the "2" key in upper row of keys)
- Caps Lock - press once then type all CAPITAL LETTERS; press again to return to normal (lowercase) typing
- Ctrl - hold down and select certain other keys to perform commands (such as Ctrl + C to copy a selected item or text, and Ctrl + V)
Mouse
The optical mouse included with the Inveneo Computer Station works on most any surface except glass or mirrored surfaces.The mouse features:
Left button
- Press to click on items such as icons, buttons and menus
- Press and hold on item then drag mouse to move item
- Press and hold and drag over text to select it
Right button
- Press and release on icon, desktop, or in a program to open quick-access commands menu
