Make printer ink and toner cartridges last longer

By changing the dpi setting to 300dpi and printing in draft mode, you can print more pages per ink or toner cartridge. DPI stands for dots per square inch. The higher the dpi, the more ink is used to make the document. For most printing, 300dpi works well. Printing in draft mode also conserves ink because the quality is slightly lower than Normal Mode or High Quality Mode. Also, printing in grayscale will extend the life of print cartridges. Greyscale means that all colored text or pictures will be printed in grey, instead of color. In general, color printing is very expensive.

Once the printer is installed (see Chapter 5:Printing):

Choose a resolution of "300 DPI" and "Draft" for printouts that are easy to read and use less toner or ink.

Reusing Paper

Instead of discarding a printout that is not needed, use the clean side of the page to print again by turning the page over and stacking it in the printer's paper tray with other discarded reusable pages.

Note: Some printers require blank pages be loaded face-up in the paper tray, while other printers require the blank side to be loaded face down. Try face up with your printer's paper tray and if the printout does not appear on the blank page, turn the pages over to print on the correct side.
