Inveneo Desktop Linux 1

Changing Settings and Preferences

Inveneo Desktop Linux 1 will only support one RDP session. Once a RDP session is configured, it can be removed by either creating a new RDP connection or re-imaging the unit. IDL1 only supports one RDP session. If you create a new RDP session icon, it will replace the original RDP session configuration. To delete the RDP session (and not add another session), the WYSE unit must be re-imaged.

If you want to install a printer, when a printer is already installed, you must first re-image the WYSE unit. Then, you can add the new printer. IDL1 only supports one printer at a time.

Re-Imaging Inveneo Desktop Linux 1

The final version of Inveneo Desktop Linux 1 is 1.0.4. There will be no more updates.

Downloading USB Installer File

You should have a 1GB or larger USB stick.

Inveneo Linux 1.0.4

Its md5sum value is c97802f637281f93fa51f5af5a1a125a

Instructions for Linux users

  1. Verify your file size to ensure that the entire file was successfully downloaded
    • > md5sum [file name]
    • The md5sum value is c97802f637281f93fa51f5af5a1a125a
  2. Uncompress the file
    • > bunzip2 [file name]
  3. Copy the file from your hard drive to your USB stick
    • > dd if=[file name] of=[location of USB stick] bs=4096
      • for example: dd if=/users/inveneo/usbinstaller-1.0.4.img of=/dev/sdb bs=4096
      • /dev/sdb is an example of a location of a USB stick. It may vary depending on which OS you use. Check the location of your USB stick using "dmesg" command.
      • Make sure you specify the entire USB stick and not just a partition on the USB stick.
      • CAUTION dd is a low level program. If you specify the wrong drive, it has the potential to erase everything.

Instructions for Windows users

  1. Install a program to verify the size of the downloaded file.
    • Create a folder called FCIV in the c:\
    • Download Checksum Integrity Verifier utility into c:\FCIV
    • Double click the downloaded file and extract the files to c:\FCIV
    • In a command line prompt, type: > cd c:\
    • > set path=%path%;c:\fciv
    • To confirm the utility is installed, type: fciv.exe /?
  2. Verify the size of the downloaded file using a command line prompt
    • > cd c:\
    • fciv.exe [file name] -md5
    • The md5sum value is c97802f637281f93fa51f5af5a1a125a
  3. Download and install 7zip
  4. Uncompress the file with 7zip to c:\ (not in a folder, but on the top level)
  5. Insert the USB stick into the computer
  6. Download a dd program like PhysDiskWrite. Unzip and place the file at c:\physdiskwrite.exe
  7. Open a command line prompt
    • > cd c:\
    • > physdiskwrite.exe [file name]
      • for example: physdiskwrite.exe c:\usbinstaller-1.0.4.img.bz2
    • The program will list the physical drives on your computer. It is VERY important determine which is your internal hard drive and which drive is the USB stick. Typically the first drive is your internal hard drive. If you have partitions or multiple hard drives, they will be listed in order.
    • > Which disk do you want to write to? [enter number]
      • Make sure you select the correct number or else you can erase your internal hard drive.
    • > About to overwrite the contents of disk [number] with new data. Proceed? [y]

Using the USB Stick with IDL1

  1. Insert USB stick into WYSE unit
  2. Power on WYSE Unit
  3. Do you want to reset this Communications Station to factory defaults? y
  4. Press Enter twice
  5. The computer will direct you to "Remove the USB key and then press enter to reboot"

For information on running the initial configuration, see Initial Configuration of Inveneo Desktop Linux 1.0.4

Inveneo Desktop Linux 2

Changing Settings and Preferences

Reconfiguring IDL2 for a different printer or RDP session is relatively easy. Simply delete the old printer or RDP icon, add the new printer or RDP session, then perform a save configuration.

For more information, see the Inveneo Desktop Linux 2 User Manual.

Re-Imaging Inveneo Desktop Linux 2

To upgrade to newer version of Inveneo Desktop Linux 2 or re-install the OS, download an ISO file, which is a bootable version of Clonezilla and an OS image folder. Only a USB CD-ROM and Clonezilla DVD are needed. While Clonezilla will fit on a CD, the OS image folder will not. Once you have downloaded and burned the ISO file to DVD, you can boot from DVD and clone your system.

Download Clonezilla with Operating System Image ISO

Inveneo Linux 2.1.5
File size: 658MB
md5sum: 0f01d1f9277ac465fcf52de80db9fe0f

Note: This ISO is compressed into a zip file.

In Windows XP, Nero seems to have issues with these ISOs. If you want to burn the ISOs using Windows XP, use BurnAware(4.5MB) or Roxio.

Installing OS from Clonezilla DVD

Once the Clonezilla DVD is burned:

  1. The computer will automatically restart and boot from the CD, loading Clonezilla
  2. After Clonezilla loads, it will ask you if you really want to image the computer > Y and enter
