Wired Networks
DHCP client on a Wired Network
By default, Inveneo Desktop Linux is configured to connect to a wired network as a DHCP client. If the network has a DHCP server from Inveneo Hub Server Linux or a router, IDL will automatically obtain an IP address when it is plugged into the network. After IDL is connected to a wired network, the networking icon in the lower right corner will change from two computers with a red "X" 
to only two computers

Configuring a Static IP for a Wired Network
- Connect the ethernet cable from the network to the Inveneo Computing Station.
- Click the Network icon in the lower right corner (next to the Trash) of the screen and choose Manual Configuration.
- Type in the administrator password and click OK.
- When the "Network Settings" window appears, click on Wired connection to select it, then click Properties.
- Click the "Configuration:" button and select Static IP address.
- Type in the required information for the "IP address:", "Subnet mask:" , and "Gateway address:".
- Click OK.
- A message will appear: "Changing interface configuration".
- When the message closes the Network icon in the right corner of the Task Bar will show that the ICS is now connected to the network.
- To save the network connection settings, click Start > Administration > Save Configuration.
- Type in the administrator password and click OK.
- When the “Configuration saved” message appears, click OK.

Wireless Networks

| The name of the access point or SSID must be one word - no spaces. Otherwise IDL will have trouble connecting. For example, the SSID “red dog” is incorrect, but “reddog” or “red-dog” are acceptable SSID names. |

| Inveneo recommends the wireless access point’s password security should be set to “WPA2 security.” |
- Plug the USB wireless adapter into an available USB port on the rear, right side of the Inveneo Computing Station. (Note: Inveneo recommends and supports the ZyXEL G-220 v2 USB wireless adapter.)
- Click the Network icon in the lower right corner (next to the Trash) of the screen.
- Click on the name of the network you want to connect to.
- Type in the network password.
- The Network icon in the lower right corner will animate to indicate it is attempting to connect to the wireless network.
- When the wireless adapter successfully connects to the network, the Network icon will change to four bars. The number of blue bars indicate the wireless connection’s signal strength between the station and the wireless router. One blue bar indicates a weak signal, and four blue bars indicates a strong signal and connection.
- To save the wireless adapter and connection settings, click Start > Administration > Save Configuration.
- Type in the administrator password and click OK.
- When the “Configuration saved” message appears, click OK.
Checking the IP Address
To open the System Information window, click Start > Administration > System Information
Determining the IP Address of Inveneo Desktop Linux
No matter how IDL connects to the network - wired, wireless, DHCP or static IP - checking the IP address is always the same.
To check the IP address of IDL:
- For a wired connection, the IP address of IDL is listed in section "Network Adapter 'eth0'".
- On a wireless connection, the IP address of IDL is listed in the section "Network Adapter 'usbeth0'"
Determining the IP Address of the Inveneo Hub Server
The IP address of the Inveneo Hub Server is also listed in the System Information window. Under the section "General Information," the last item "Hub:" shows the IP address of the Inveneo Hub Server. The default IP address of Inveneo Hub Linux is 192.168.100.1. Usually Inveneo Desktop Linux will find Inveneo Hub Linux automatically on the network.
If the System Information window does not list an IP address for an Inveneo Hub Server, you will need to check the IP address of the hub server on the hub server itself. Type the command: ifconfig
The LAN IP address will be listed under 'eth1'
Configuring Inveneo Servers
If the shared folder icon does not automatically appear on the desktop when connected to a network with an Inveneo Hub Server, you can manually enter the IP address of the server. You can also use this window to connect Inveneo Desktop Linux to a Microsoft Windows Server.
Manually Connecting a Server to Inveneo Desktop Linux
- Click Start > Administration > Configure Inveneo Servers
- Type in the administrator password and click OK.
- In the section "Hub Server," click on "Connect to a specific Hub Server."
- In the "Hub address/hostname" field, enter the IP address of the server.
- Click OK
- If you are connecting to an Inveneo Hub Server, the "Shared Files" folder will appear on the desktop.
- To save the IP address of the server, click Start > Administration > Save Configuration.
- Type in the administrator password and click OK.
- When the “Configuration saved” message appears, click OK.
Configuring Internet Gateway
Clicking on the "Configure in web browser . . ." button launches Firefox with the log in screen for an ATA. This is only for Inveneo Communication Stations, which have telephones. Since Inveneo Computing Stations do not have an ATA connected to them, ICSs cannot use this feature.
Configuring Status Reporting
If you have a reliable Internet connection and would like to help Inveneo improve IDL, turn on "Enable status reporting for this station" by checking/ticking the box. If you know the location of your ICS in decimal degrees, also enter the latitude and longitude as well.
